Where did GEICO Come From Anyway?
The GEICO Insurance Company was founded during the height of the Great Depression, when not many people were brave enough to start up a new company. Leo and Lillian Goodwin, however, saw this challenge as an exciting one, and were confident that they could create a car insurance company that would thrive in the midst of America’s troubles. They targeted their business to only certain clientele, and went to work on a business plan. Soon, the Government Employees Insurance Company was formed. Now known simply as GEICO, not many people are aware that this insurance company served only government employees during its early years. During the years, new investors took notice of this company, one of which was Warren Buffet who soon bought some of GEICO’s stock. The company has continued to grow over the years, and has featured many icons who achieved celebrity status. The GEICO gecko, for example, as well as the GEICO squirrels, the Cavemen, and even a southern-talking pothole. GEICO introduced the ability to get insurance quotes from their smart phones in 2010, and has now created the GEICO Express Login.
